Shinseki tries to squelch rumors about health reform and Vets

Secretary of Veterans Affairs Erik Shinseki "addressed fears that some veterans have expressed that their health care and, specifically, their TRICARE medical coverage will be adversely affected by the health-reform legislation," according to the Providence Journal.

"Shinseki pointed out that President Obama has strongly supported veterans and their needs. … To further assure veterans that health-reform legislation will not affect their health care, the chairmen of five U.S. House committees, including Veterans Affairs Chairman Bob Filner and Armed Services Chairman Ike Skelton, issued a joint letter reaffirming that the health reform would protect those receiving care through all TRICARE and Department of Veterans Affairs programs" (Reilly, 3/29).
