The Associated Press/ABC News: "President Barack Obama has nominated Harvard medical professor Donald Berwick to oversee Medicare and Medicaid. Obama had signaled his plans in March and made them official Monday." The nomination must be confirmed by the Senate (4/19).
Politico 44: Berwick "is also the president and CEO of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, a nonprofit that seeks to improve patients' medical treatment." In a statement, President Obama noted that Berwick has dedicated his career to improving health outcomes and "providing better care at loser cost. ... That's one of the core missions facing our next CMS Administrator, and I'm confident that Don will be an outstanding leader for the agency and the millions of Americans it serves" (4/19).
