4,000 ColonRing Applications in 16 Countries To Date
NiTi has completed more than 4,000 successful ColonRing applications at hospitals in 16 countries worldwide. This significant achievement, coupled with the continued expansion of worldwide distribution of ColonRing in 21 countries to date, represent validation of colorectal surgeons' need for an innovative solution to promote natural healing following colon surgery.
"We are very proud to announce this important achievement of 4,000 applications of the ColonRing, but we are particularly pleased to see a significant increase in the number of hospitals now utilizing this game-changing product," said Itay Itzhaky, chief executive officer of NiTi Surgical Solutions. "NiTi continues to further expand its global commercial efforts and introduce ColonRing to colon and rectal surgeons in hospitals across the world as a breakthrough device in creating tissue anastomosis."
Positive Clinical Data Presented at SAGES 2010 Annual World Congress
Clinical data showcasing ColonRing's ease of use and safety was recently presented by physicians from Bnai-Zion Medical Center in Haifa, Israel at the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) 2010 Annual World Congress, held in April 2010 in Washington, D.C. As part of a post marketing study, 14 patients (9 male, 5 female) received laparoscopic surgery for diverticular (4) or neoplastic (10) diseases and were operated on using the ColonRing. Estimated blood loss from the operation was minimal in all patients. Time to flatus and bowel movement, and length of hospital stay following operation and ColonRing application, was consistent with current surgical practice. Abdominal x-rays conducted one month following the operation showed no residual rings in all the patients.
"The ColonRing has proven to be a novel anastomotic device that is easy to use. We were pleased with the outcome of surgery following the use of this product in all patients studied. By utilizing the ColonRing in surgery, we were able to achieve a wider internal anastomotic diameter, and are encouraged by the long-term healing prospects associated with the absence of a remaining foreign body. This unique advantage of ColonRing should contribute to a reduction in the site leak rate, as well as anastomotic bleeding. We look forward to further exploring ColonRing's clinical benefits in future studies," said Dan Shteinberg, M.D., Bnai-Zion Medical Center.
