PCPCC welcomes Obama's announcement to promote primary care workforce training

The Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative welcomed the announcement today by the Obama administration that some $250 million in new funding will be put towards funding of primary care workforce training.

"Today's announcement aligns with our goal to promote primary care and improve the patient centered medical home as a means to positively transform delivery of health care," said Edwina Rogers, executive director of the PCPCC. "The PCPCC firmly supports policies that enhance greater access to care by promoting primary care workforce training and professional development, such as increased funding for physician residencies in primary care, National Health Service Corps scholarship and loan repayment programs.

"Like the president, we also support greater incentives for careers in primary care, for doctors, physician assistants and nurse practitioners -- to better prepare primary care health professionals to provide care coordination and team-based patient-centered care, with everyone in the system working at the top of their licenses."

The PCPCC is a coalition of more than 700 organizations representing the nation's business leaders, consumers, primary care physicians and other health care stakeholders with a shared goal to advance the patient centered medical home.
