Aurora Imaging Technology, Inc. today announced the installation of the Aurora® Dedicated Breast MRI System in China at the world-renowned Ruijin Hospital located in Shanghai, the teaching hospital for China's top-tiered Jiao Tong University Medical School. The installation marks the first Aurora System in China.
"We chose the Aurora System because it offers outstanding image resolution and clarity that are essential for our patient population. We wanted the best for our patients, and Aurora provided features that clearly set it apart from MRI systems with "add-on" breast coils. In the brief time since we installed the Aurora System we have been seeing more than ten patients a day and we anticipate this number will continue to grow steadily," said Dengbin Wang, M.D., PhD., vice chairman, professor of radiology, and chief radiologist, Department of Radiology, Ruijin Hospital.
The incidence of breast cancer in parts of Asia is rising steeply and catching up with rates in the Western world. In addition, women in Asia have a high propensity for dense breast tissue, which can be difficult to image using traditional mammography and ultrasound. The Aurora® Dedicated Breast MRI System offers an advantage over traditional breast imaging techniques, such as mammography, to imaging dense breast tissue, therefore making the need for access to this technology critical for Asian women.
"We are thrilled that Ruijin Hospital selected the Aurora System for their breast center. We are excited about the potential that China offers, and to have our first installation come at the leading teaching hospital, Ruijin Hospital, makes us extremely optimistic about what the future holds for Aurora in the Chinese market. Aurora has continued to gain acceptance and approval from leading medical communities worldwide and now in one of the world's most important markets," said Olivia Ho Cheng, president and chief executive officer of Aurora Imaging Technology Inc.
Ruijin joins other premier breast centers from around the world that have chosen the Aurora System for its exceptional image quality and clinical benefits.
Representatives from Aurora joined country and local leaders, medical experts and honored guests for an opening ceremony at the new Shanghai facility on June 5th, 2010.
