It is the seventh day the Jury deliberating on the Patel manslaughter is sequestered at a Brisbane hotel. The Jury including six men and six women retired to an undisclosed Brisbane hotel last Wednesday to consider the case. Today also marks the 59th day of the trial.
Dr. Jayant Patel, 60 pleaded not guilty to three cases of unlawful killing (Mervyn Morris, 75, Gerry Kemps, 77, and James Phillips, 46) and one case of causing grievous harm (Ian Rodney Vowles, 62) during his tenure as the Director of Surgery at Bundaberg Base hospital in Queensland between 2003 and 2005.
At the same tome a small protest group consisting of members of the Bundaberg-Burnett Patient Support group maintained its protests outside the closed Bundaberg Courthouse last night and Saturday. Deliberations at the Brisbane Supreme court are to continue today.
