Omni Health Media, one of the world's leading specialty publishers of health-related information, websites, applications, and educational programs for individuals with cancer and their caregivers announces the successful launch of CancerConnect.com during the Allen Media Conference in Sun Valley, ID. Cancer Connect is a new social network that will allow people with cancer and those who care for them to share information, inspiration, hope, and support.
“People with cancer and their caregivers need ongoing access to support—not just during a brief office visit with their physician, but when they go home and do research. They need help and support during sleepless nights as well as during busy days”
CancerConnect is the first online property to combine a robust information platform consisting of current comprehensive information on cancer with a social network. It is populated with rich content to support the many ongoing needs of individuals battling cancer and is comprised of communities of individuals with similar interests in the area of cancer. Disease-specific groups as well as groups focused on caregiving, health and wellness, and nutrition all exist to provide support for anyone affected by a diagnosis of cancer. 600 Cancer patients signed up during the 30 day beta test and the application will now be available online to all users. The community will also be available on leading cancer websites such as Memorial Sloan Kettering and Roswell Park which will launch later this month.
Visitors to CancerConnect.com can learn about all aspects of cancer and join groups focused on a specific disease, such as breast, colon, prostate, and lung cancer. They can also participate in communities with broader concerns like nutrition and spirituality. Visitors to CancerConnect.com can ask questions, share experience and connect with others who share their issues in a secure and confidential environment.
"People with cancer and their caregivers need ongoing access to support—not just during a brief office visit with their physician, but when they go home and do research. They need help and support during sleepless nights as well as during busy days," explains Charles Weaver, MD, a medical oncologist and CEO of OMNI Health Media. We hope to help individuals find support in managing all phases and stages of their disease—from determining the best course of treatment, to understanding eligibility for clinical trials, to paying for treatment and other broader financial issues such as choosing a health plan that best fits your needs."
"People with cancer need to be educated and informed, but they also need to connect and feel supported and know that they are not alone," said Alana Brody, VP Social Media. CancerConnect.com will give people with cancer and their caregivers more than just information—it will provide a true community where patients can communicate and participate whenever they need help—24/7."
