MRI, University of Minnesota SPH enter agreement to further research collaboration

The Medica Research Institute (MRI) and the University of Minnesota School of Public Health (SPH) have entered into an agreement to jointly search for a senior director of the MRI who will also hold an adjunct faculty position at the SPH. The Medica Research Institute was established in January 2010 to conduct research that can be translated into activities that protect health and improve lives. The SPH's research portfolio exceeds $90 million in sponsored projects, making it one of the most research-intensive schools of public health in the country.

“Our core values of scientific excellence and research integrity mirror those of the faculty and leadership of the School of Public Health”

The agreement opens the door to further collaboration between the two organizations, with the ultimate goal of research partnerships to improve health and prevent disease.

"Our core values of scientific excellence and research integrity mirror those of the faculty and leadership of the School of Public Health," says Charles Fazio, executive director of the MRI. "We very much look forward to partnering with the School of Public Health to build our own research capacity and better understand the health challenges facing our community."

School of Public Health Dean John R. Finnegan, Jr., agrees. "Partnerships with leading health care organizations like Medica provide an important platform for us to conduct research that can improve the health of our community."
