Kinetic Concepts enters injunction against Smith & Nephew to prohibit infringement of two patents

Kinetic Concepts, Inc. (NYSE:KCI) today announced that the High Court of Justice Chancery Division, Patents Court in the United Kingdom has entered an injunction against Smith & Nephew plc prohibiting infringement of two KCI patents relating to negative pressure wound therapy ("NPWT"). The Court stayed the injunction pending appeal, which is expected in October of this year.

“We are pleased with this decision that supports KCI's investment in wound care innovation”

In June, the Court found that sales of SNN's Renasys NPWT products infringe valid claims of two KCI patents. An assessment of damages will continue while the appeal is pending.

"We are pleased with this decision that supports KCI's investment in wound care innovation," said Mike Genau, president of KCI's Active Healing Solutions division. "The people of KCI are proud to serve the medical community and patients in the UK, and will do all we can to help customers transition from infringing products to V.A.C.® Therapy."
