In a bizarre incident a 58 year old man died after the police intercepted his car during a routine traffic inspection on Bermuda Street, Varsity Lakes, about 10am on Monday (AEST).
Now the Police Ethical Standards Command is investigating the death. A senior constable alleged that the Burleigh Heads man appeared to be suffering a “medical condition.” When the man collapsed the female officer called for assistance and started to perform CPR said the police. In presence of a male bystander the man was taken to Gold Coast Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Superintendent Jim Keogh said, “The officer then returned to the vehicle that had initially been intercepted and found the driver in an unconscious state.” The Police are seeking to contact the man who assisted at the scene. He is asked to contact Ethical Standards Command on 3364 4054.
As of now the Queensland Police Service is preparing a report for the coroner, and the Ethical Standards Command is investigating and also will prepare a report for the coroner. The Crime and Misconduct Commission has also been informed of the incident.
