Abbott wins 2010 Scrip Awards for business excellence and strong management

Scrip, a leading global pharmaceutical and biotech news organization, honored Abbott (NYSE: ABT) with two 2010 Scrip Awards for its business excellence and strong management.

"We are honored to receive these two prestigious awards on behalf of our 90,000 employees worldwide," said Miles D. White, chairman and chief executive officer, Abbott.

Abbott received awards for Pharma Company of the Year and Management Team of the Year at Scrip's sixth annual awards ceremony in London on Thursday evening.  The Scrip Awards recognize excellence and achievement in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries.  In 2009, Scrip recognized Mr. White as Executive of the Year.  

Scrip recognized Abbott as the Pharma Company of the Year and Management Team of the Year for the company's continued strong financial performance, emerging markets strategy, new product launches and diverse pipeline.  

2010 Recognition

Abbott secured numerous significant awards and honors from other prominent organizations, which recognized its business, scientific, citizenship and workplace leadership in 2010:

Business Leadership: Abbott was named the Most Admired Company in its industry sector in 2010 by FORTUNE magazine.  The company also ranked among the top 25 World's Most Respected Companies by Barron's magazine.

Scientific Innovation: Abbott was named a winner of the 2010 Chicago Innovation Award for its ARCHITECT HIV Ag/Ab Combo assay.  

Social Responsibility: Abbott has been included on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for six years, recognizing Abbott's continued global leadership in responsible economic, environmental and social performance.  The company was named one of the top three "2010 Best in Class" companies in its industry sector by Storebrand Investments, a leading European socially responsible investment (SRI) firm.  Abbott also ranked sixth overall in the global 100 Best Corporate Citizens list 2010 compiled by Corporate Responsibility magazine.

Workplace Leadership: Abbott has been recognized as a top employer in more than 20 countries around the world.  The company has been honored as a top employer for scientists by Science and The Scientist magazines, and has been named one of Working Mother magazine's "100 Best Companies" for 10 consecutive years.
