In a series of drug busts nearly 38 kilograms of illegal drugs were recovered in Queensland ahead of Schoolies Week celebrations. The drugs were seized by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Customs and Border Protection.
Authorities believe that these drugs were likely to end up on the Gold Coast’s party precinct. The Schoolies Week celebrations beginning Saturday will see more than 35,000 school leavers visit the region.
According to a spokeswoman for the AFP the drug bust was possible by targeting the postal system and courier services. She revealed that quite a few people faced criminal charges and the haul included all types of illicit drugs.
AFP and customs officers will address the media about the operation later this morning.
