Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity honored Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Henry Schein, Inc. (Nasdaq: HSIC), the largest distributor of health care products and services to office-based practitioners, at the Organization's 2010 Annual Sunny Days Convention. Alpha Omega, which promotes professional excellence and fraternalism, bestowed the organization's highest honor, Alpha Omega's Lifetime Achievement Medal, at a dinner gala held in San Diego, Calif. on December 30. Mr. Bergman is the first person in 30 years to receive this award who is neither a health care professional nor a Ph.D.
In accepting the Alpha Omega Lifetime Achievement Medal, Mr. Bergman said, "Henry Schein and Alpha Omega share a common vision of 'helping health happen,' and the belief that partnerships which include health professional organizations and industry play a fundamentally important role in addressing global health issues. I am proud to accept this award on behalf of nearly 14,000 Team Schein Members, and know that our best years are yet to come for the partnership between Henry Schein and Alpha Omega."
For more than 15 years, Henry Schein Cares, the Company's global corporate social responsibility program, has partnered with the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity on a variety of different programs aimed at enhancing access to oral health care for underserved communities around the world. Through its longstanding partnership with Alpha Omega, Henry Schein Cares has supported the renovation of the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dentistry Clinic; helped build the Dr. D. Walter Cohen Middle East Center for Dental Education; supported the Alpha Omega Centennial Challenge Fund; assisted in the expansion of the Hebrew University School of Dental Medicine; and worked closely with Hebrew University and Al-Quds.
University on the Bridges to Peace program. As a result of Henry Schein's partnership with Alpha Omega, for the past 13 years Henry Schein Cares also has provided dental supplies, as well as financial and marketing support, for Dental Volunteers for Israel, an organization that enhances access to oral health care for all children throughout Jerusalem, regardless of race or religion.
Alpha Omega's Lifetime Achievement Medal was first given in 1935, and past recipients include Dr. Albert Einstein and Dr. Jonas Salk. Steve Kess, Henry Schein's Vice President for Global Professional Relations, has served as a member of the Alpha Omega Board of Directors for the past five years.
