New Center for Precision Joint Replacement opens at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center

Salt Lake Regional Medical Center today announced the grand opening of the hospital's Center for Precision Joint Replacement, which specializes in the practice of complex knee, hip and shoulder joint replacements in Utah.

“We are very proud of the new Center for Precision Joint Replacement and look forward to seeing it benefit our patients”

The Center, located on the fifth floor of Salt Lake Regional, provides surgical services to patients with arthritis in the knees, hips and shoulders. Led by board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Aaron Hofmann, the new Center also offers a complete pre- and post-rehabilitation program taught weekly by certified physical therapists, covering everything from presurgical education to postoperative instruction and recovery.

"With dedication to quality and excellence, coupled with our pre- and postoperative patient care, it's only a matter of time before the center will be recognized as the premier place in Utah to treat joint replacement needs," said Dr. Hofmann, director of the Center for Precision Joint Replacement at Salt Lake Regional and founder of the Hofmann Arthritis Institute.

The Center offers patients the latest advancements in minimally invasive surgery, including computer navigation, patient-specific custom instrumentation and robotics. For example, it has acquired and is successfully using the first Mako RIO® Robotic Arm in Utah to treat osteoarthritis of the knee.

This minimally invasive surgical option results in shorter hospital stays and faster healing than traditional knee surgeries for most patients. MAKOplasty patients can also experience a smaller incision and less blood loss as compared with a total knee replacement. The Center's first patient is healing nicely and expects to return to work in about two weeks.

"We are very proud of the new Center for Precision Joint Replacement and look forward to seeing it benefit our patients," said Jeff Frandsen, CEO of Salt Lake Regional Medical Center. "The procedures, technology and services will give adults living with arthritis an exciting resource to help increase their quality of life."
