A conference on diabetes is to take place at the University of Greenwich's Medway campus.
The Diabetes Spring Conference 2011 on Friday, April 15 is being hosted by the University of Greenwich and the Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation (DRWF), in association with the Diabetes Research Network (DRN). It is also a celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Nutrition Society.
The conference will tackle a wide range of themes including diabetes awareness, patient education, wellness, and current management strategies.
Dr Paul Amuna from the University of Greenwich's School of Science and Chair of the organising committee says: "Diabetes affects many of the body's organs and systems and has been on the increase over the last 50 years. Worldwide the disease is projected to double from 171 million in 2000 to 366 million by the year 2030. In the United Kingdom, diabetes is a significant drain on the National Health Service budget and poses a threat to the quality of life of many individuals and families."
Keynote Speakers include Dr Tricia Younger, Associate Director, Public Health Excellence, NICE; Professor G.A. Hitman , Clinical Lead, Diabetes Research Networks; and Mrs Anne-Marie Felton, Vice-President, International Diabetes Federation & President, Foundation of European Nurses in Diabetes.
The conference is open to all relevant professionals in the diabetes arena including academic researchers, clinical practitioners, students, nurse practitioners, research and wellness and other community based organisations.
