Modern Healthcare: Prison Health Care Providers Set To Merge
Valitas Health Services plans to acquire America Service Group for $250 million, merging two of the largest providers of correctional health care. Valitas, of St. Louis, is the parent company of Correctional Medical Services. America Service Group of Brentwood, Tenn., is the parent of PHS Correctional Healthcare. Upon completion of the merger, the combined organization will have about 11,000 employees and contractors providing health care to inmates at more than 400 prisons, jails and other correctional institutions. Combined revenue for 2011 is expected to be about $1.4 billion (Vesely, 3/3).
