Today, the European Congress on Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ECCEO11-IOF) opened in Valencia, Spain with some 4000 international participants. The Congress is the major annual European meeting in the bone field and attracts clinicians, specialists and bone experts from around the world. ECCEO11-IOF continues until March 26th at Valencia's Palacio de Congresos.
A joint event of the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis & Osteoarthritis (ESCEO) and the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), the Congress will present the latest advances in bone research through plenary lectures by top experts, as well as in oral and poster presentations selected from close to 700 scientific abstracts. The research presented at the congress is published in 'Osteoporosis International'.
"We have invited renowned speakers to present the latest advances in bone research in a format that will be useful for the thousands of health care professionals who are attending the Congress" noted Professor Jean-Yves Reginster, ESCEO President and Congress Co-Chair.
Professor John Kanis, Congress Co-Chair and President of IOF, commented, "Osteoporosis and osteoarthritis are among the most common and serious chronic diseases affecting older Europeans. Patients with these musculoskeletal diseases are treated by a wide range of clinicians - including endocrinologists, rheumatologists, orthopaedists and general practitioners. The European Congress on Osteoporosis & Osteoarthritis is a single forum that allows these specialists to learn about new research and the latest clinical advances that will be of direct benefit to patients."
