Nearly 800 dental sleep medicine professionals from around the world will gather at the 20th Anniversary Meeting of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM), which will take place Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the Hilton Minneapolis in Minneapolis, Minn. The meeting will be held in conjunction with SLEEP 2011, the 25th Anniversary Meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies.
The AADSM 20th Anniversary Meeting is the premier event for dental sleep medicine professionals to present and discuss the latest research and clinical developments in sleep-disordered breathing, which has been linked to health problems such as depression, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and stroke. This research will help the dental and medical communities promote healthy sleep habits and provide appropriate medical care for the 18 million people in the U.S. who suffer from a sleep-related breathing disorder.
The scientific program includes a general session, research abstracts, educational courses, and meet-the-profession sessions with industry experts. The exhibit hall features more than 30 exhibits from industry leaders in medical equipment, publications and software.
In 1992, 25 dental professionals interested in dental sleep medicine attended the first annual meeting of the AADSM, formally the Sleep Disorders Dental Society, in Phoenix, Ariz. Although much has changed in dental sleep medicine over the last two decades, the outstanding academic and clinical research presented at the annual AADSM meetings remains constant.
