Trillium registered nurses choose ONA to become members of the union

Registered nurses employed at Trillium Health Centre have overwhelmingly voted yes to join the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA), the largest nurses' union in Canada.

Trillium RNs chose ONA membership in a vote held yesterday. ONA President Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN, is honoured that the nurses have chosen to become members of the union.

"ONA prides itself on being the leading voice of and an advocate for registered nurses and allied health professionals in Ontario," she said. "ONA was founded in 1973 and over the past 38 years, the union has been a leader in improving workload, working conditions, compensation, workplace safety and addressing professional issues for RNs in Ontario. The public knows that nurses are invaluable, and that dollar for dollar, we are the best value in health care. We welcome our new members from Trillium Health Centre and look forward to providing excellent service to them."

Registered Nurses at Trillium Health Care have sent a strong message to their employer that they expect respect, wages, benefits and a quality of work life that reflects the value that they provide to their patients and to the healthcare system.

ONA is the union representing 55,000 front-line RNs and allied health professionals and more than 12,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in Ontario hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, industry and clinics.
