Mundelein High School students obliged when U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh encouraged them to ask him questions during a visit to their Advanced Placement government class Tuesday. ... But he spent the most time talking about the need to cut spending on federal health programs, including Medicare. Medicare should be used only as a "safety net" for those who cannot get health care anywhere else, he said (Black, 9/7).

Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., has been among the more outspoken members of Congress calling for major reductions in federal spending to reduce the budget deficit. But on Wednesday, at a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee meeting, he is expected to vote for nearly $700 million in funding for autism research and treatment (Galewitz, 9/6).
