FBC Device receives US patent titled, 'Disc Implant'

FBC Device ApS, a medical device company developing the Statur® line of spinal interbody fusion implants, has received its first US patent covering a series of two piece implants that enable natural spinal alignment. The Patent number US 8,007,536 is titled "Disc Implant."

Professor Finn Christensen, MD, PhD, founder and CEO of FBC Device says:

"When treating fusion patients, I realized many years ago that alignment was critical to a successful surgery. Unfortunately, alignment of the bones in the operative theatre is not the same alignment obtained when the patient is up and walking. So we invented a two piece interbody fusion device that allows for temporary relative movement between the two components so that the patient's body by itself can determine the appropriate position for fusion; what we call natural balance™." Dr. Christensen adds, "This novel concept holds the promise of improved outcomes, while taking advantage of well-accepted surgical techniques."
