Wen-Teng Wu, a chemical engineering professor at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), has won a Research Exchange Award of the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering. He is the sole recipient of the award in 2011.
The award was given to Wu in recognition of his invaluable contribution to promoting international collaboration among Asian countries on biotechnology research.
After receiving the honor in Korea on Oct. 6, Wu delivered a speech on the prospects of renewable energy the next day during the society's conference.
He said, "The development of renewable energy is a popular subject nowadays. We should make use of agricultural, industrial and urban wastes at lower cost to develop biomass energy, a critical renewable resource in the future."
Because of his efforts in promoting biotechnology research in the university and the world, NCKU was ranked the 19th globally in the alternative energy field, according to a report of Elsevier.
With Wu in the organizing team, an international conference on energy technology and strategy will be held from Nov. 17-19 at NCKU in which scholars from Czech Republic, Poland and Malaysia will participate.
