Last fall Bayshore Community Hospital became the sixth hospital in Meridian's Monmouth and Ocean county system. With a strong focus on customer service, alignment with Meridian Health clinical best practices, a new leadership team, and countless new physicians, Bayshore has begun to develop an exciting plan to create a destination hospital that will become the pride of the community.
At the forefront of creating this new experience is a new leadership team within Bayshore, led by Timothy J. Hogan, president of Riverview Medical Center and Bayshore Community Hospital. The site leadership team at Bayshore features a number of Meridian Health's brightest and most seasoned executives, including Anthony V. Cava, executive director, who is responsible for all day-to-day operations at Bayshore. This multi-disciplinary group has brought a guided focus on excellence to nursing, medical staff development, operations, finance, marketing, and human resources.
"The new leadership team has exciting plans for the growth and development of Bayshore Community Hospital," says Hogan. "The development of signature services, a targeted effort to expand the medical staff, and the introduction of customized service initiatives such as Concierge Care, will continue to create a new experience at Bayshore."
A number of exciting initiatives have been implemented since Bayshore joined the Meridian Health family:
•Since September of 2010, more than 71 new physicians have joined the medical staff — more than in the past five years combined!
•Cardiovascular services continue to be central to Bayshore's future. Within the past year, the heart of Bayshore has expanded with a new designation granted to the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, expanded services, lab upgrades and plans for expansion.
•New services have been introduced, including a new Center for Bariatrics, developed under the leadership of nationally-recognized bariatric surgeon, Karl Strom, M.D.
•A number of new initiatives for nurses and team members have been introduced to encourage professional growth, additional training, and access to the latest clinical standards at Meridian Health.
Bayshore was recently recognized for its strong focus on quality by The Joint Commission, a leading 3rd party accreditation agency in health care for its scores in core measures. In addition to quality scores, the patient experience is being benchmarked against Meridian Health standards of service.
Looking ahead to the near future, key clinical services featured at the hospital will include Cardiovascular, Neurosciences, Cancer Care, and Pediatrics.
Cardiovascular services will be a signature service at Bayshore with future plans for two state-of-the-art Catheterization Labs and numerous other diagnostic testing services, making Bayshore a destination hospital for heart and vascular care.
"The way the community views Bayshore has already changed significantly now that it has the strong support and leadership inherent within a bigger system," says Cava. "We are confident that Bayshore's further collaboration with Meridian Health will allow us to provide the best health care experience for all who choose the physicians, facilities and services offered by Meridian."
In the year to follow, Bayshore will continue to attract top surgeons, as it develops more advanced surgical capabilities and facilities. New services in wound care healing, sleep, women's diagnostics, diagnostic imaging, and endoscopy, will support the growth of the hospital, allowing leadership to reinvest in the clinical team and scope of services, ultimately benefitting the communities it serves.
"Together, these strategies will create a destination hospital that will attract the nation's finest physicians and empower our team to deliver exceptional care to members of our community," says Hogan. "Bayshore is now well-positioned for continued future success in providing our patients with direct access to a complete network of the state's best health care services."
