Six young investigators receive IOF's Young Investigator Award for bone research

6 researchers receive awards for top ranking abstracts at the International Osteoporosis Foundation's 1st Middle-East & Africa Osteoporosis Meeting

Six young investigators from the Middle East have been awarded prestigious grants in recognition of their top ranked research abstracts presented at the IOF Regionals - 1st Middle-East & Africa Osteoporosis Meeting.

The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) is dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge on osteoporosis, and in particular to encouraging young researchers in all parts of the world to engage in bone research. As a sign of this commitment, IOF offers annual Young Investigator Awards at its regional meetings.

Today, six presenting authors (40 years old or younger at the time of the Meeting) of top ranking abstracts were awarded USD 1,000 and were invited to present their work during a special plenary session.

The winners and the titles of their abstracts are as follows:

• Patricia Khashayar (Iran): Appropriateness of the BMD orders among insured Iranians
• Aref A. Bin Abdulhak (Saudi Arabia): Transient osteoporosis of the hip with involvement of the surrounding soft tissue: A case report
• Ahmed Abdulbari (Iraq): Determination of procollagen I N-terminal peptide and osteopontin in postmenopausal women with vertebral osteoporotic fractures
• Ghazala Naureen (Pakistan): Determination of bone health status in community dwelling females in Karachi, Pakistan
• Aliaa Hossameldin Ghoneim (Saudi Arabia): Vitamin D status, serum calcium level, and bone mineral density in male patients with type II diabetes mellitus in Saudi Arabia
• H. Balkhyoor (Saudi Arabia): Vitamin D status in premenopausal women and its association with the metabolic syndrome and its individual components: A cross-sectional study (Winner of the Fonterra Brands-supported IOF Young Investigator Award for nutrition-related osteoporosis research)
