As part of the 2012 National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, February 26-March 3, the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) and MentorCONNECT have teamed up for the 2nd Annual "Virtual Walk," a social media-driven fundraising and awareness event.
With the theme Everybody Knows Somebody, NEDAwareness Week is the nation's largest national outreach campaign to raise consciousness about the seriousness of eating disorders. Through NEDAwareness Week, participants seek to educate the public on signs and symptoms of eating disorders and encourage people to get help. The goal is also to spread a message of hope: Help is available, recovery is possible and those affected are not alone in their struggle!
The NEDAwareness Week 2nd Annual "Virtual Walk" social media campaign offers each MentorCONNECT member, their families, loved ones and community of friends a really cool and innovative way to "walk" as a team via social media like Facebook and Twitter. The goal of the MentorCONNECT "Virtual Walk" partnership with NEDA is to unite people all over the world via social media tools, raising awareness and much needed funds to support individuals and families affected by eating disorders.
Contributions will support the National Eating Disorders Association and MentorCONNECT organizations to continue providing critical programs and services for recovering persons. For NEDA, the funds help to support their National Toll-Free Helpline, National Eating Disorders Awareness Week and its annual Conference for Families and Professionals. MentorCONNECT provides volunteer recovery mentors, a private online support community, daily and weekly email inspirations, weekly support group meetings, and monthly teleconferences.
