Thermo Fisher Scientific brings several innovations in bioprocessing technologies and systems

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today debuted several innovations in bioprocessing technologies and systems that address the evolving requirements of drug discovery and production for global biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical manufacturers.

“We continue to set new standards as a leader in bioprocessing by helping our customers efficiently progress from drug discovery to large-scale commercial production, serving as their partner each step of the way.”

"Our scale and depth of capabilities are unmatched as a global bioprocessing partner for biopharma customers," said Greg Herrema, president, Biosciences, Thermo Fisher Scientific. "We expanded our capabilities during the last year with the addition of production chemical supply services and new instruments for the analytical lab, and continue to extend our leadership in cell culture with innovative, new media, single-use technology and cell factory products."

During the annual Interphex Conference and Exhibition, Thermo Fisher will showcase advancements in cell culture and bioprocessing solutions, including its new single-use bioprocessing film, single-use mixer and analytical testing services aimed at facilitating biomanufacturing quality, performance and efficiency. Interphex is being held at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center, New York City, April 23-25, 2013, Booth #2533.

"Our biopharma customers today face a changing and global landscape with a heightened focus on supply assurance, consistent quality and redundant manufacturing," said Cory Stevenson, vice president and general manager, BioProcess Production, Thermo Fisher Scientific. "We continue to set new standards as a leader in bioprocessing by helping our customers efficiently progress from drug discovery to large-scale commercial production, serving as their partner each step of the way."

From Discovery to Production

Bringing the biologic from discovery to development and production demands exceptional technologies and expertise. Thermo Fisher offers a deep understanding of the complex relationship between single-use film, cell culture media, single-use bioreactors and the biological systems used to produce vaccines and biologics. Highlights of Thermo Fisher's presence at Interphex include:

  • The new Thermo Scientific Aegis5-14 Film is the company's most advanced film for the most demanding cell culture and single-use bioprocessing applications. Engineered for use across the entire spectrum of Thermo Scientific single-use technologies from bioreactors to mixers to bioprocess containers, the Aegis5-14 Film is built on its industry-leading Thermo Scientific CX5-14 film, with application across a broad range of biomanufacturing functions.
  • For smaller volume applications, the Thermo Scientific HyPerforma Single-Use Mixer DS 300 offers an efficient, cost-effective single-use docking station mixing solution, combining the performance, flexibility and economy required for pilot-scale applications.
  • The new Thermo Scientific Collaborative Technologies offering provides analytical testing services for numerous applications, including media customization and process optimization.
  • Also on display will be the industry-leading Thermo Scientific HyPerforma Single-Use Bioreactor, as well as storage and transport solutions, single-use consumables and Thermo Scientific centrifuge and Thermo Scientific Fiberlite carbon fiber rotor technology for scale-up to process development quantities.
  • Technology Workshop: Best Practices for Single-Use Films & Goods presented by Thermo Fisher Global R&D Director Michael Goodwin on Wednesday, April 24, Room 1E07.

Thermo Fisher has served the biopharma industry for decades. The company introduced several industry firsts—most notably, the first-to-market bioprocess container and stirred-tank single-use bioreactor (SUB). Its array of solutions for the biopharmaceutical industry include single-use technologies, as well analytical instruments, labware and safety consumables, centrifugation, and production chemicals. In addition, the company's Fisher BioServices is the world's largest biorepository and biobanking and cell therapy clinical trial management service provider, offering specialized biological sample and material management and cell therapy logistics services to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and national, state and academic institutions.
