Open access publisher BioMed Central is proud to announce the launch of Acta Neuropathologica Communications (ANC). ANC will publish work on pathology and mechanisms of neurological disease using structural, molecular and cellular techniques.
The sister of Acta Neuropathologica, a highly successful journal published by Springer with an impressive Impact Factor of 9.32 (2011), ANC will focus on publishing only high quality articles that do not need major revisions. This will allow for fast, continuous open access publication. Both are led by Editor-in-Chief Werner Paulus, a Professor of Neuropathology at University Hospital Münster, Germany.
Professor Paulus comments: "Over the past decades neuropathology has evolved from a remote discipline describing the microscopic features of exotic diseases, to a highly dynamic field where neuroscientists reveal pathogenetically fascinating and clinically important data about the most common and devastating diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, stroke or multiple sclerosis, using molecular, cellular and structural techniques.
"Acta Neuropathologica Communications will be the forum for this 'new' neuropathology. 'We regard the prompt publication of interesting papers that do not require major revisions as our hallmark, and we feel responsible and challenged when handling papers that often are the authors' 'babies'. We cordially invite you as authors and readers to fulfill our credo as being fast, fair and fascinating."
Included in the launch articles, Lang et. al review the evidence of the α-synuclein pathology of Parkinson's Disease as described by Braak. They discuss the challenges of the Braak Hypothesis, suggesting how Prion-like processes may mediate the pathology progression. In another, Dysfunction of the mTOR pathway is a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, Nagy et. al provide insight into the mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease.
Deborah Kahn, BioMed Central's Publishing Director says, "BioMed Central is very pleased to announce the launch of Acta Neuropathologica Communications. This exciting new journal, which is the sister journal to the prestigious Springer journal, Acta Neuropathologica, is led by Professor Werner Paulus who promises authors within the neuropathology field exceptionally fast publication times - targeting open access, online publication within two months of submission. As well as a great service to authors, this allows researchers and the general public rapid access to the latest research, findings and discoveries."
