As healthcare moves from a volume to a value proposition, building better, more efficient patient care is increasingly important. Radiologists will learn skills to help navigate this transition, become better leaders, and thrive under new delivery and payment systems, at the American College of Radiology's (ACR) Radiology Leadership Institute (RLI) RLI Annual Event, to be held July 25-28, 2013, at the Kellogg School of Management on Northwestern University's Evanston, IL, campus. Former Senator, Tom Daschle — the author of "Obamacare" — will deliver the keynote address. The event will offer a total of 22 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and 22 RLI Credits.
"The RLI has carefully selected leading radiology professionals to collaborate with the renowned Kellogg business school faculty to produce an educational event focused on the implementation of best business practices in a radiology environment. Based on the feedback from participants at last year's conference, we have developed a program with content even more focused on meeting today's challenges. This is THE event for radiology's current and future leaders," said Cynthia S. Sherry, MD, FACR, medical director of RLI and chair of the ACR Commission on Leadership and Practice Development.
The all new, four-day program is designed to help radiology professionals:
• Identify key operational metrics and processes for organizational effectiveness and utilize tools to embed the "value" concept into practice management
• Explore effective negotiation techniques and learn strategies to maximize the potential for a deal
• Build and manage more effective teams to improve the quality of care and profitability
• Learn strategies for managing conflict, dealing with uncertainty and creating opportunities for improvement as well as understand how team dynamics will likely shape the role of radiology in new payment systems
Brian Uzzi, PhD, a globally recognized scientist, teacher, consultant and speaker on leadership, social networks and new media, will demonstrate effective techniques that help leaders build consensus in organizations. Jan A. Van Miegham, PhD, the Harold L. Stuart Distinguished Professor of Managerial Economics and professor of operations management at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, will introduce attendees to practical aspects of operations research to enhance patient flow and achieve operational excellence.
