Anesthesia & Analgesia journal of IARS achieves another increase in its "Impact Factor"

The International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS) is pleased to announce that Anesthesia & Analgesia, official journal of the IARS, has achieved yet another increase in its "Impact Factor"—a key indicator of the influence and scientific value of medical journals.

According to the 2012 ISI Journal Citation Reports®, published by Thomson Reuters, the journal's Impact Factor showed an incremental rise to 3.300. Impact Factor, a key measure of the frequency with which studies published in peer-reviewed journals are cited by new research papers. Anesthesia & Analgesia maintained its ranking as the number six journal (out of 29) in the Anesthesiology category.

Steady Growth in Key Measure of Journal's Value and Importance
The new report marks the sixth year in a row that Anesthesia & Analgesia's Impact Factor has increased. That consecutive run corresponds to the tenure of Steven L. Shafer, MD, as Editor-in-Chief , notes Debra A. Schwinn, MD, Chair of the IARS Board of Trustees.

"Much credit is due to Steve's editorial vision and hard work, along with the efforts of our associate and section editors," Dr. Schwinn comments. "To achieve such consistent growth, at a time of rapid change in the science and practice of anesthesiology and pain medicine, reflects our society journal's role as a major contributor to and forum for progress in our specialty."

The Impact Factor is widely regarded as the most important measure of the importance of medical and scientific journals. Each monthly issue of Anesthesia & Analgesia presents important new research in cardiovascular, ambulatory, and pediatric anesthesia; anesthetic pharmacology; technology, computing, and simulation; critical care, trauma, and resuscitation; neuroscience in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine; and economics, education, and policy.

The journal's unique emphasis on analgesia—including pain medicine, pain mechanisms, and regional anesthesia—highlights the growing importance of pain control in research and clinical practice. Editorials, topical reviews, letters, and other features contribute to making Anesthesia & Analgesia the "Gold Standard in Anesthesiology."
