Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers (http://www.liebertpub.com) and the American Thyroid Association (ATA) (http://www.thyroid.org) announced major plans for the expansion of the flagship journal Thyroid (http://www.liebertpub.com/thy) to include two additional important components to better serve the thyroid community and to foster optimal patient care.
In spring 2014, Thyroid (http://www.liebertpub.com/thy) will launch an innovative rapid-publication videojournal companion called VideoEndocrinology. VideoEndocrinology will publish high-quality videos of cutting-edge surgical and diagnostic imaging techniques and technologies covering thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal tumors and diseases, with minimally invasive, robotic, and open surgical procedures. VideoEndocrinology will provide a dynamic new venue for physicians and surgeons to share their techniques and showcase new approaches. This summer, the ATA and Publisher will announce an outstanding editor-in-chief and associate editor team for VideoEndocrinology and will build an extensive taxonomy that will support a robust videojournal platform.
Beginning in January 2014, the highly valued abstract and commentary publication—Clinical Thyroidology, led by Editor-in-Chief Jerome M. Hershman, MD—will be part of the Thyroid journal expansion, enhanced by a sophisticated online format that will be easily searchable and discoverable, and accessible in libraries and institutions all over the globe as part of a subscription to Thyroid.
ATA members in good standing will receive VideoEndocrinology and Clinical Thyroidology as part of their membership benefits.
All three journals are provided free online in the developing world courtesy of the Publisher.
"The American Thyroid Association leadership is enthusiastic about pursuing these new publication directions," says Bryan R. Haugen, MD, President of the ATA and Professor of Medicine and Pathology, Head, Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Diabetes, Mary Rossick Kern and Jerome H. Kern Chair in Endocrine Neoplasms Research, University of Colorado School of Medicine. "VideoEndocrinology and Clinical Thyroidology are innovative collaborative opportunities with Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. to expand our academic and intellectual reach in a way that will better serve our members and the larger community."
"The combination of these three publications provides a vastly expanded resource for thyroidologists and endocrine specialists to ensure better outcomes for their patients," says Mary Ann Liebert, President of the company that bears her name.
