Keele University School of Psychology in the UK will host the 5th Annual Meeting of the Alcohol Hangover Research Group, Thu 1st - Fri 2nd August 2013.
The conference organiser, Senior Psychology Lecturer at Keele, Dr Richard Stephens, and Keele's Marie Curie Postdoctoral Research Fellow Dr Lawren Owen will be welcoming international alcohol hangover researchers from the USA, Canada, Netherlands and the UK to a two-day scientific meeting in Keele Hall. The meeting will be considering research on the effects of hangover on cognitive performance and driving; how hangovers can be experienced differently according to age, genetics and choice of beverage; the biology of alcohol consumption and the hangover; and whether having a hangover acts as a deterrent to future alcohol consumption. Other Keele contributers, as well as Richard and Lawren, include Psychology's Dr Jim Grange and Keele Psychology MSc student Sam Royle.
Despite being the most prevalent and commonly recognised problem experienced in relation to alcohol, the hangover has been a neglected part of the alcohol research scene until recently. The meeting builds on the success of Psychology in attracting £148,975 of research funding for Keele in the area of alcohol hangover research via a two year European Union 7th Framework Marie Curie Research Fellowship awarded to Richard Stephens, Lawren Owen and Jim Grange from 1st August 2012.
