Satellite Healthcare, NKF partner to sponsor free Community Kidney Disease Symposium

Satellite Healthcare, one of the nation's first and leading not-for-profit providers of kidney dialysis services and a major sponsor of kidney research, is proud to announce that it has partnered with the National Kidney Foundation™ (NKF) to sponsor NKF's free Community Kidney Disease Symposium this Saturday, November 16th in Stockton, California.

Held in conjunction with National Diabetes Month, the free symposium will provide the community with an educational resource for individuals with diabetes and/or high blood pressure; individuals at risk for chronic kidney disease (CKD); and relatives and friends of patients with kidney failure or diabetes.

"Diabetes is one of the primary causes of kidney disease, and a threat we believe can be reduced through community-based education," said Kim Hernandez, Satellite Healthcare's Director of Brand & Marketing Communications. "By partnering with the National Kidney Foundation to provide this free symposium, Satellite hopes to take another step towards reducing the rate of diabetes in Stockton and surrounding communities."

According to a study by the NKF, kidney disease is dramatically under diagnosed among those with diabetes, which is the eighth leading cause of death in the U.S. One in 10 adults age 20 or older in the U.S. has kidney disease.

The symposium, which will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., will consist of six sessions with doctors, dietitians and a kidney patient discussing a variety of kidney health topics. The sessions, which include a Q&A session, are as follows:

Living Well with Kidney Disease

How to Talk to Your Healthcare Team about Diabetes

Healthy Kidneys: Controlling Your Blood Pressure

Basic Fitness Info: The Power of Walking

Eating Well for Kidney Health

Diabetes and Your Kidneys

The symposium will be held this Saturday, November 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at University Park-Aspen Center, 805 E. Magnolia Street, in Stockton. Lunch will be provided. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by emailing [email protected], or calling 415-543-3303.
