UFCW supports for the efforts of Ohio Rights Amendment

United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) members in Ohio today announced their support for the efforts of the Ohio Rights Group and for the Ohio Cannabis Rights Amendment. The UFCW workers in Region 4, who are members of Locals 75 and 1059, are expressing their support for an effort to amend the Ohio Constitution for the creation of good jobs in Ohio's communities.

"Tens of thousands of Americans are employed in the medical cannabis industry and that number is growing every day," said Dan Rush, director of the Cannabis Workers Rising project of the UFCW. "Many of those work in union shops where they have a voice at work and good family-supporting benefits. These are the kind of jobs the Cannabis Rights Amendment would bring to Ohio."

With more than 75,000 members throughout the state, the UFCW is one of Ohio's largest private sector unions, and an important voice on issues like health care, workplace standards and economic development that works for working families.

"Ohio's workers need all the help they can get in these tough economic times," said Lennie Wyatt, president of UFCW Local 75 and UFCW International Vice President. "We can't pass on the opportunity to create thousands of good jobs right here at home and that's why the UFCW is standing with the Ohio Rights Group today."

In the U.S., the UFCW represents thousands of medical cannabis workers in six states and the District of Columbia and unites them in its Cannabis Workers Rising project. UFCW members in the cannabis industry work predominantly in dispensaries, coffee shops, bakeries, patient identification centers, hydroponics stores, and growing and training facilities.
