RMANJ releases new fertility checklist for early diagnosis and treatment options

With over seven million men and women in the United States impacted by infertility, information about early diagnosis and various infertility treatment options like in vitro fertilization (IVF), preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), and comprehensive chromosome screening (CCS) can offer help to many patients looking to overcome infertility.

In observance of National Infertility Awareness Week, April 20-26, Reproductive Medicine Associates of New Jersey (RMANJ) has launched two new informational resources for prospective parents facing the challenges of infertility. MyFertilityChecklist.com is an interactive quiz that asks critical questions and provides important facts about when to seek the help of a reproductive endocrinologist for infertility care.

"If someone has been trying to get pregnant for 6-12 months without success and are approximately 35 years of age, they shouldn't wait to make that first call to a specialist," offered Dr. Shefali Shastri from RMANJ Somerset. "Information is power, so hopefully a resource like MyFertilityChecklist.com can help those patients who are Googling 'infertility,' right now."

In addition to the website, RMANJ is offering a free companion brochure that also provides helpful questions for patients to ask when looking for state of the art infertility care. The brochure can be downloaded at MyFertilityChecklist.com and www.RMANJ.com. RMANJ has also launched a series of infographics covering various topics related to infertility including:

  • When to speak to a reproductive endocrinologist
  • Important considerations when looking for a fertility center
  • Elective Single Embryo Transfer (eSET)

"There are nearly 50 IVF centers in the New York-New Jersey area alone and the treatments offered can vary widely. So choosing the right place can be hard for patients new to infertility," commented Dr. Eric J. Forman from RMANJ Morristown. "Patients need to be aware that new options like CCS have been demonstrated to improve IVF delivery rates and single embryo transfer can provide high delivery rates but with fewer complications from twins and multiples," added Dr. Forman.

Visit MyFertilityChecklist.com to take the quiz and see if it might be time to talk to a reproductive specialist. Visit MyFertilityChecklist.com or www.RMANJ.com to download the free companion brochure with important questions to ask about your infertility care.
