Today, Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today the UK launch of UpToDate® Anywhere, enabling hospitals and healthcare organisations to provide clinicians with access to its acclaimed clinical decision support resource anytime, anywhere via mobile app and electronic patient record (EPR).
Dr Anne-Marie Kelly, consultant chemical pathologist at University Hospital of South Manchester, said "UpToDate saves time and improves patient care because you can get an authoritative answer at your fingertips, when you are with a patient or communicating with another healthcare professional."
Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt, has challenged the NHS to become paperless by 2018. The widespread use of modern technology, such as tablets and smartphones, will provide clinicians with faster access to evidence-based information, driving improvements in efficiencies and patient care.
UpToDate is already used by doctors at more than half of NHS acute trusts. With the expanded access of UpToDate Anywhere, clinicians can find answers to their clinical questions when and where they arise from a tablet or mobile device using the UpToDate mobile app. UpToDate is available in iOS, Android™ and Windows 8 mobile platforms, as well as via any mobile web browser. By accessing UpToDate within EPR systems such as Cerner, InterSystems, and Meditech, doctors can also find answers to questions directly within the clinical workflow.
Studies have shown that UpToDate changes the way clinicians practice medicine; it is the only clinical decision support resource of its kind associated with improved patient outcomes. Physicians who use UpToDate to research clinical questions are also eligible to earn CME credit with every search.
"No matter where clinicians are - at the bedside, in the clinic, or elsewhere, helping them find the best answers to their clinical questions is a central component of our mission to improve the quality and effectiveness of healthcare worldwide," said Denise Basow, MD, Vice President and General Manager, UpToDate at Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions. "The launch of UpToDate Anywhere, coupled with a concerted effort to embed UpToDate within the leading EPR systems, advances that mission by ensuring clinicians have quick access to trusted clinician information at the point of care and beyond."
