Twitterbowl 2015 fundraising challenge raises $27,000 to support Seattle Children's, Christopher's Haven

The Twitterbowl 2015 football and fundraising challenge, initiated by actors Chris Evans and Chris Pratt, has raised nearly $27,000 for Seattle Children's and Christopher's Haven since the contest was launched on Jan. 29.

To date, Seattle Children's has raised nearly $15,000 to support the hospital's greatest needs. Christopher's Haven has raised close to $12,000 to serve families undergoing cancer treatment in Boston.

"We are grateful that real-life superheroes Chris Pratt and Chris Evans are turning their sports rivalry into an opportunity to support kids in their communities," said Lisa Brandenburg, president of Seattle Children's Hospital. "We are delighted that patients and families at both Seattle Children's and Christopher's Haven will benefit from these generous donations."

The contest was launched after Pratt challenged Evans to a bet via Twitter. If Pratt's team - the Seattle Seahawks - won the Super Bowl, Evans would visit Seattle Children's dressed as his movie character - Captain America - carrying the 12th Man flag. If Evan's team - the New England Patriots - won, Pratt would visit Christopher's Haven in Boston dressed as his movie character - Star-Lord - wearing Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's jersey. Even though the Patriots won on Sunday, Evans agreed to visit Seattle Children's patients anyway. The fundraising contest will continue until after both visits.

"The generosity of Chris Evans and Chris Pratt is overwhelming," said Joyce Duvall, executive director of Christopher's Haven. "They turned a simple, friendly wager into something very significant for both Christopher's Haven and Seattle Children's Hospital. The fun and goodwill that they have generated will stay with the children a long time."
