Top scientists to attend 3rd annual Helmholtz-Nature Medicine Diabetes Conference

As a unique scientific panel it brings together top scientists as well as promising young researchers from different disciplines in a personal and selected ambience.

Facing the preeminent scientific challenges in modern diabetes research, the interdisciplinary program combines multidimensional and translational research approaches. This year, a specific focus will be on the brain in control of metabolism. The conference setting is meant to encourage intense dialogue and interaction among scientists. Round table talks offer selected attendees the possibility to discuss their projects with leading experts.

The audience of the conference is characterized by internationality and elite: more than a third of last years' conference attendees were international, from 13 countries overall. Speakers as well as the audience belong to the leading research centers, including well-known institutes such as Cambridge, Harvard and Yale.

New, unpublished research data, presented by international top leaders, will lead to scientific discussion, exchange and new networks. The hope is that collaborations will grow out of this conference with an overall goal of abating the diabetes pandemic.

The conference will feature two award presentations, the Helmholtz Diabetes Lecture, in recognition of the lifetime achievements of a senior leader in the field, and the Helmholtz Young Investigator Diabetes (HeIDi) Award, in recognition of a rising star. The Helmholtz Diabetes Lecture 2015 will be awarded to Bruce Spiegelman (Harvard Medical School).
