AXT to distribute OpenSpecimen Biobanking software solution

AXT and Krishagni Solutions are proud to announce their recent distributorship agreement for the OpenSpecimen biobanking software solution developed specifically for clinical researchers. OpenSpecimen is a complete solution for biobanking that will speed up your workflow allowing you to spend less time tracking specimens.

Based on an open source platform designed by Krishagni Solutions, OpenSpecimen (formerly known as caTissue Plus) is currently used by a host of highly-respected research institutions across 12 countries where it manages biospecimens from collection to utilisation. It takes the hassle out of operations such as collection, managing consent status, quality control, specimen request and distribution providing a central place to manage samples and their associated data.

With the knowledge that no two research institutions are the same or have the same requirements, the system has been designed with ultimate flexibility and customisation in mind. This enables users with only limited IT experience to be able to perform functions like adding custom fields or forms to tailor OpenSpecimen to your specific requirements. In the event that more detailed customisation is required, the team at Krishagni offer a professional support service so you can be assured that you can get the best results from OpenSpecimen.

Desley Pitcher, AXT’s National Life Science Product Manager said, “we are very excited to add this new product to our life science portfolio. While the generation of data is the process that usually gets the spotlight, the ability to manage biological and libraries is crucial to any clinical research operation. OpenSpecimen will allow researchers to more efficiently concentrate their efforts on their research with the knowledge that their specimens and data are being managed using a robust yet user-friendly solution providing the highest level of confidence in their findings.”

OpenSpecimen has been vital to the operations at the biorepository at the Lowy Cancer Research Centre at the University of New South Wales. Biorepository Manager, Dr. Anusha Hettiaratchi said, “A database was one of the first things we put into place when we established our Biorepository. Knowing that OpenSpecimen was backed by the National Cancer Institute in the US, and is used by the likes of the Biorepository at Washington University, were key deciding factors in its implementation. We are currently dealing with over 55,000 specimens and Open Specimen has been invaluable in managing the intake and distribution of not only the specimens, but also the vast amount of data associated with them. We also work continuously with Krishagni to tailor OpenSpecimen to suit our specific requirements. OpenSpecimen continues to be scalable to match the growth of our operations. ”

Srikanth Adiga from Krishagni Solutions commented, “We have been involved with OpenSpecimen and caTissue Plus (that was originally developed by the National Cancer Institute and the US Government) since 2004, so have an intimate understanding of its workings and capabilities. We work with users of the software and provide training, remote system administration, regular user group meetings and system support. For new adopters we can work with you to customise and configure the system as well as providing services like data migration and system integration.
