CHLA opens doors of new Encino outpatient care center

Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) opened the doors of its new outpatient care center in Encino today. The pediatric medical facility, Children's Hospital Los Angeles - Encino, will be staffed by physicians who are Board-certified in pediatric specialties and subspecialties, including hematology-oncology, nephrology, neurology, orthopaedics, pediatric surgery and urology.

"We are bringing the best pediatric specialty care to the families of the San Fernando Valley," says Chief Medical Officer, CHLA Pediatric Network and long-time Los Angeles pediatrician Robert Adler, MD. "The San Fernando Valley is home to many families. It offers great schools, great parks and a commitment to health care—with the opening of this outpatient center in the heart of Encino, CHLA will be able to provide San Fernando Valley families with the right pediatric care in the right place at the right time."

The Encino outpatient care center will offer top medical expertise from specialty-trained physician members of the award-winning staff at Children's Hospital Los Angeles—ranked fifth among children's hospitals nationwide and number one in California by U.S. News & World Report. The 3,000-square-foot center features seven exam rooms and will offer consults and evaluations. In addition, children requiring a medical procedure at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles campus in Hollywood can have all their pre-operation evaluation and post-operation follow-up visits close to home at the Encino facility. From June 2013 to July 2014, Children's Hospital Los Angeles physicians treated 19,351 children from the San Fernando Valley area, which accounted for 101,809 visits.

"By bringing pediatric specialty services closer to home for San Fernando Valley families, we hope to give them greater peace of mind and more time to spend with loved ones," says Richard D. Cordova, FACHE, president and CEO of Children's Hospital Los Angeles. "Family-centered care is core to our mission and opening an outpatient center in the San Fernando Valley, represents an investment in our ability to help families in these cities."

"The Encino outpatient center will provide the best available care in a convenient location. Patients from the San Fernando Valley and immediate neighboring communities such as Bel-Air, Brentwood and Pacific Palisades, along with those of the west Valley—such as Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Canoga Park, Chatsworth, Lake Balboa, Reseda,
Sherman Oaks, Tarzana, Thousand Oaks, Van Nuys, West Hills and Westlake Village—will now have access to the nation's top pediatric doctors," Adler says.

Given the multidisciplinary nature of CHLA's care and expertise, the outpatient center in Encino offers San Fernando Valley families access to the nation's top doctors. More services will be added to the Encino outpatient care center as demand increases.

As further commitment to the families in the San Fernando Valley, beginning July 1, Children's Hospital will be staffing the general pediatric, pediatric intensive care and neonatal intensive care units at Providence Tarzana Medical Center. CHLA's hospitalists and intensivists - physicians charged with overseeing hospitalized and critically-ill patients - will staff the units 24 hours a day. The leadership from both hospitals emphasize that this partnership will offer a new level of care for infants and children from the San Fernando Valley and adjacent communities, highlighted by the access to CHLA specialists and subspecialists.
