Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital opened its first pediatric specialty clinic outside of the Baton Rouge area on June 3. The Pediatric Specialty Clinic in Lafayette, Louisiana will offer specialized outpatient care for pediatric gastroenterology.
The clinic marks the first Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital location outside of the Baton Rouge area and allows for more children to receive the same high level of quality pediatric care found at the main campus. The clinic offers diagnoses and treatment for children, ranging from newborns to teenagers, with digestion and gastrointestinal (GI) issues.
"Expanding the reach of Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital serves a great need for pediatric specialized services in Lafayette and provides patients access to specialists close to home rather than traveling to Baton Rouge. This new clinic provides the area's only pediatric gastroenterologists with the possible addition of other services in the future," said Nicole Telhiard, vice president of Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital.
Treating more than 100,000 children annually from across Louisiana and the surrounding region, Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital is the only full-service provider of pediatric healthcare in the Baton Rouge region, including the area's only 24/7 pediatric Emergency Room. The main campus also offers more than 60 pediatric specialists and a St. Jude Affiliate Clinic, one of only seven such clinics in the country to offer the same oncology and hematology expertise, treatment and protocols offered at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The Pediatric Specialty Clinic will offer diagnoses and treatment for children, ranging from newborns to teenagers, with digestion and gastrointestinal (GI) issues. Ghanim Aljomah, MD is the pediatric gastroenterologist serving patients at the clinic. Dr. Aljomah is Board Certified in pediatrics and Board eligible in pediatric gastroenterology. He also provides pediatric gastroenterology services at Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital in Baton Rouge, along with J. Brannon Alberty, MD and Patrice Tyson, MD.
