For the sixth consecutive year, Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) has been ranked the top hospital in the country for orthopedics by U.S. News & World Report in its 2015 "Best Hospitals" survey. The hospital was also nationally recognized as a leader in rheumatology, ranking No. 3 in association with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
"We are honored to receive the top national recognition in orthopedics with unprecedented consistency, which is an indication of our commitment to delivering value to all patients," said Louis A. Shapiro, president and CEO of Hospital for Special Surgery. "And, we are proud that HSS is the choice among patients who want to live life to the fullest. Our patients travel for our care from all 50 U.S. states and from more than 100 countries worldwide."
"This accolade is a testament to the work of all HSS staff who help patients get back to their own game of life every day," added Dr. Todd J. Albert, surgeon-in-chief and medical director of Hospital for Special Surgery. "The entire clinical process at HSS - and all services we provide for patients - is developed to advance care, research, and education in our specialty field of musculoskeletal medicine."
In 2014 HSS cared for more than 120,000 patients with surgical and nonsurgical services in joint replacement, spine surgery, sports medicine, orthopedic trauma, hand surgery, foot and ankle surgery, pediatric orthopedics, limb lengthening, rheumatology, pain management, and osteoporosis. In the past year the Hospital has expanded patient access to care through new Outpatient Centers in Stamford, CT and Paramus, NJ, and an online second opinion service called HSS eConsult.
HSS also provides care to elite, professional and collegiate organizations both locally and around the world, including USA Basketball, Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the Brooklyn Nets, New York Giants, New York Knicks, New York Liberty, New York Mets and New York Red Bulls, among others. HSS is also the first designated National Medical Center of the United States Olympic Committee's (USOC) National Medical Network.
