Meridian Health Plan has second highest rate of HPV vaccinations in U.S. for female adolescents

Meridian Health Plan of Illinois has the second highest rate of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations for female adolescents among all health plans in the country reporting HEDIS data to the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

In a recent analysis of 2013 health plan performance rates on the Human Papillomavirus Vaccination in Female Adolescents HEDIS measure, NCQA found that Meridian had the second highest performance rate on this preventive care measure.

"This is just one example of the many ways in which we promote the long-term health of our members. Our commitment to preventive care is vital to ensuring our youth have the foundation for a lifetime of health," said Judith Pobojewski, RN, Illinois Director of Quality Improvement for Meridian Health Plan.

Meridian Health Plan of Illinois is the number one Medicaid HMO in Illinois and 10th in the nation according to NCQA's Medicaid Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2014–2015. NCQA's Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) is the most widely used performance measurement tool in health care.

HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection for women and is a major cause of cervical cancer in women. The proper preventative care of three HPV vaccinations for girls at 9-13 years of age can prevent infection with the strains of HPV that are associated with cervical cancer.
