Magnesium deficiency can cause sleep deprivation, say health experts

Magnesium deficiency could be part of the reason you toss and turn at night, say health pioneers BetterYou following ITV’s 'Tonight – Why can’t Britain sleep?' programme which aired yesterday (17 November).

The TV programme touched on a new survey by Aviva that shows Brits are the worst sleepers in the world. It also highlighted that it’s time we took our sleep more seriously, as deprivation can not only have detrimental effects on cognitive function and blood pressure, but also make us more susceptible to coughs and colds, diabetes, and early death.

According to the programme, lbeauast year £58million was spent on over the counter sleep aids, with a staggering 16million prescriptions being prescribed for sleeping tablets. Transdermal magnesium experts BetterYou, say that the public should look to affordable natural remedies, such as its MagnesiumOil spray or MagnesiumOil Flakes, before turning to prescription drugs or the NHS.

Sleep Practitioner & Sleep Environment Expert James Wilson says:

Research from the University of Edinburgh and the University of Cambridge has shown that there is a relationship between our cells’ magnesium levels and the body’s ability to follow its sleep cycle efficiently.

Basically, having the right levels of magnesium in the body means we find it easier to fall asleep and wake up at the right time.

Magnesium helps the body relax by ensuring the GABA receptors in our brain and nervous system are working as efficiently as possible. GABA receptors help the brain switch off and without it, our minds would continue to race.

I recommend BetterYou Magnesium Flakes in a relaxing body or foot bath and/or BetterYou MagnesiumOil Goodnight Spray after a bath or shower, as a cost effective option to help achieve a restful sleep.

The Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine found that when the body’s magnesium levels are too low, it makes it harder to stay asleep.

A clinical trial by Cardiff University found that applying BetterYou Magnesium Oil spray to the skin provides a faster way of absorbing the mineral than tablets.

A clinical trial by Cardiff University showed how well magnesium is absorbed through the skin. A further study by Watkins & Josling showed that BetterYou MagnesiumOil will elevate cellular magnesium levels up to five times faster than traditional tablets or capsules.

BetterYou MagnesiumOil Sprays and Bath Flakes are available from Holland and Barratt, betteryou.com and all good health stores.
