All Children's Hospital joins Johns Hopkins Medicine

All Children's Hospital, in St. Petersburg, Fla., is now a part of the Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS) and a fully integrated member of Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM). All Children's is the first U.S. hospital outside of the Baltimore/Washington, D.C., region to become integrated with JHM, which includes the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System.

Vermillion, Quest Diagnostics enter agreement to launch OVA1 IVDMIA assay in India

Vermillion, a molecular diagnostics company, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Quest Diagnostics to make OVA1 available in India. The companies are targeting a launch in the second quarter of 2011. Additionally, at the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS) regional meeting held in New Delhi April 2-3, 2011, Dr. Fred Ueland presented data demonstrating the high sensitivity for ovarian malignancy of OVA1 in combination with ultrasound.

All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) were introduced in this country in the 1970s. Currently, there are approximately 9.5 million ATVs in use and more than 150,000 reported ATV-related injuries in this country annually. The rapid rise in ATV-related injuries is due to increased use and also to the production of larger, faster, and more powerful vehicles, according to a review article that was recently published in the April issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS).

Greater allowances for overweight bus passengers in U.S.

Because of the growing waistlines of many American bus passengers, the U.S. government may have to rewrite bus safety rules. The Federal Transit Authority (FTA) wants to raise the assumed average weight per bus passenger from 150 pounds to 175 pounds and add an extra quarter of a square foot of floor space per passenger. The agency says the proposals “acknowledge the expanding girth of the average passenger.”
