Takeda announces publication of data from two vedolizumab Phase 3 studies for ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease

Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited today announced that results from two Phase 3 studies evaluating vedolizumab, an investigational humanized monoclonal antibody, for the treatment of adults with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, were published in the August 22, 2013 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

New antibody drug shows positive results for treating Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis

Vedolizumab, a new intravenous antibody medication, has shown positive results for treating both Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, according to researchers at the University of California San Diego, School of Medicine. The findings, published in two papers, will appear in the August 22 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM).

Having the means to identify patients who are most likely to benefit from currently available cancer drugs not only reduces substantially the healthcare cost for the patient, it could mean saving precious lives by getting the right drugs to the right patient at the onset of the treatment.
