Performance Health's 2015 Scientific Advisory Committee meeting focuses on evidence-based practice

Performance Health held its 17th annual Scientific Advisory Committee meeting (known as TRAC) in Vancouver, Canada. Seventeen researchers and clinicians, representing five countries and expertise in physical therapy, chiropractic, exercise science, athletic training, and massage therapy, presented their research on Performance Health products, including TheraBand, Biofreeze and Cramer brands.

Optimal aerobic exercise training may benefit patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension

A physical therapy researcher with the IU School of Health and Rehabilitation Services at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis has been awarded a $465,000 National Institutes of Health grant to optimize aerobic exercise training for patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension, a goal data suggests could reduce morbidity and mortality among those with the disease.

FDA accepts Allergan's resubmission of BOTOX sBLA for treatment of adults with upper limb spasticity

Allergan plc, a leading global pharmaceutical company today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has accepted the company's resubmission of its Supplemental Biologics License Application (sBLA) for BOTOX (onabotulinumtoxinA) for the treatment of adults with lower limb (involving ankle and toe muscles) spasticity in adults.

USF Health, FORCE receive $1.45 million from PCORI to advance and expand clinical research network

A team led by the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine and the leading national hereditary breast and ovarian cancer advocacy organization, FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered) received a $1.45-million funding award for a three-year project from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to continue to advance and expand the ABOUT Network as part of the second phase of PCORnet: the National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network.

Dynatronics granted U.S. patent for ThermoStim Probe

Dynatronics Corporation today announced its patent for "Systems and Methods for Providing a Thermo-electro-stimulation Probe Device" (US Patent No. 9,084,665) has been granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. This technology is incorporated in the company's ThermoStim Probe used in the delivery of therapeutic treatments.

Injury restrictions, or limits on athletes' physical activity due to illnesses or injuries, can keep athletes on the bench for a game or even an entire season. Now, University of Missouri researchers have found college football players are more likely to experience injuries during test weeks than during training camp.

PEth biomarker significantly higher in binge drinkers

A biomarker found in the blood of alcohol users is significantly higher in binge drinkers than in those who consume alcohol moderately, according to a study by researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The biomarker, called phosphatidylethanol (PEth), could be used to screen young adults for harmful or heavy drinking such as binge drinking.
