SIR issues position statement to determine safety, effectiveness of interventional M.S. treatment

Recognizing that venous interventions may potentially play an important role in treating some patients who suffer from multiple sclerosis an incurable, disabling disease the Society of Interventional Radiology has issued a position statement indicating its support for high quality clinical research to determine the safety and effectiveness of interventional M.S. treatments.

J-LANCELOT trial finds E5555 may reduce MACE without increasing serious bleeding events

Aspirin and thienopyridine antiplatelet therapy (such as clopidogrel) are standard care in the treatment of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and even in stable coronary artery disease (CAD) after coronary intervention with stent. However, effective antiplatelet agents are needed which do not increase the risk of bleeding.

Intendis granted rights to KYTHERA's ATX-101 candidate for minimally-invasive fat reduction outside US, Canada

KYTHERA Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. and Intendis, Bayer HealthCare's dermatology business, today announced that they have entered into a licensing agreement granting Intendis rights to KYTHERA's lead product candidate, ATX-101, outside of the US and Canada. ATX-101, a first-in-class investigational drug, is currently in clinical development for the reduction of localized fat under the chin (submental fat).

The intestines have to work properly if we are to benefit from the food we eat. Digestive juices must be secreted, the food broken down into smaller components and then transported through the gut wall and onwards to muscles and organs. The lining of the gut is coated in epithelial cells, a specialised layer that produces mucous and hormones while keeping dangerous bacteria and toxins at bay. Close contact with pathogenic microbes and toxins means that the epithelial cells may mutate to form cancer.

Nihon-Kohden granted exclusive rights to distribute Z-Medica's QuikClot line of hemostatic agents in Japan

Z-Medica Corporation, a medical device company developing innovative hemostatic agents, today announced that it has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Nihon-Kohden, Japan's leading manufacturer, developer and distributor of medical electronic equipment . The agreement allows Nihon-Kohden the exclusive right to distribute Z-Medica's QuikClot line of hemostatic agents to hospital, military and law enforcement markets throughout Japan. The companies have been working together since early 2009 to obtain regulatory approval.

Cedillo vs. Health and Human Services case highlights failure of Vaccine Injury Compensation Program

The Elizabeth Birt Center for Autism Law and Advocacy is deeply disappointed in the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit's decision to affirm Cedillo v. Secretary of Health and Human Services. EBCALA submitted a friend-of-the-court brief on behalf of 23 civil society organizations in January 2010 urging the Court of Appeals to reverse. In affirming the decision, the Court of Appeals failed to do justice by Michelle Cedillo and thousands of other petitioners in the Omnibus Autism Proceeding (OAP).
