EC grants marketing authorization for BENLYSTA to treat SLE

GlaxoSmithKline and Human Genome Sciences, Inc. announced today that the European Commission has granted marketing authorization for BENLYSTA 10mg/kg as an add-on therapy in adult patients with active autoantibody-positive systemic lupus erythematosus, with a high degree of disease activity, despite standard therapy.

Scientists identify DNA variants linked with elevated risk of prostate cancer

Doctors have known for a long time that prostate cancer "runs in the family". Men with relatives who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer have an elevated risk of also developing this type of cancer. It was only last year that DKFZ scientists calculated that this risk rises with the number of affected direct family members and also depends on the relatives' age at outbreak of the disease.

Affymetrix commences shipment of gene profiling reagents

Affymetrix, Inc. today began shipping its FDA-cleared Gene Profiling Reagents. Affymetrix also announced the availability of the new Gene Profiling Array cGMP U133 P2, a version of the widely cited Human Genome U133 Plus 2.0 Array, as another component to its GeneChip Instrument System, which is used by Affymetrix partners for assay development.

Extensive genomic, transcriptional diversity identified through massively parallel DNA and RNA sequencing

In a paper published in the online edition of Nature Genetics on July 3, 2011, sequencing specialists at Axeq Technologies, and scientists from Macrogen Inc., Genomic Medicine Institute at Seoul National University, Psoma Therapeutics Inc., Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School reported the discovery of a wide range of novel genetic variants based on the deep sequencing of 18 genomes and 17 transcriptomes of unrelated Korean individuals.
