Researchers present data on ARQ 092 at 2013 AACR Annual Meeting

Researchers presented data today on ARQ 092, an AKT inhibitor in Phase 1 clinical development by ArQule, Inc. at the AACR Annual Meeting held in Washington, D.C., April 6-10, showing that this novel, oral agent inhibits the AKT pathway and has a manageable safety profile in an ongoing Phase 1 clinical trial.

Findings could help develop new ways to predict risks of tobacco-associated cancers

Believe it or not, while researchers have explored which genes are mutated in each type of tobacco-associated cancer, until now no one had thought to look across these types for common genes that might predict patient outcomes. Results presented at the AACR Annual Meeting 2013 show that in lung and bladder cancers, genes related to the regulation of the cell cycle are associated with poor patient outcomes.

Researchers have discovered a new mechanism by which the human papilloma virus (HPV) causes head and neck cancer, and they have designed a drug to block that mechanism.
