WFP says more than 1M Kenyans need food aid due to drought; India increases food distribution to deal with drought

More than 1 million Kenyans living in prolonged drought conditions are not getting the food aid they need, Gabrielle Menezes, a spokeswoman for the U.N.'s World Food Program (WFP), said recently, the Associated Press reports. She said WFP already provides emergency food aid to about 2.5 million people in Kenya, but another 1.3 million still need help.

Foreign-trained doctors practising in Canada declining substantially

Since the 1970s, the percentage of foreign-trained doctors practising in Canada has declined considerably. A new report released by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) shows the number of international medical graduates (IMGs), as a proportion of the physician workforce in Canada, decreased from 33% in the 1970s to 22% in 2007.

Southern Research's Birmingham campus to have a Comprehensive Chemical Biology Center

Southern Research Institute today announced that it has been selected as one of 11 organizations to help establish the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Chemical Biology Consortium (CBC)--a program meant to coordinate and accelerate the discovery and development of new therapeutic agents to treat cancer patients. Southern Research will establish one of NCI's five Comprehensive Chemical Biology Centers at its Birmingham campus.
